It's a Boy!

I got some awesome news this morning: In December, my best friend will become the proud mom of a baby boy!!! We've all been waiting to find out the sex, and while my fingers had been crossed for a girl ;), I'm exited to meet the little guy!! I can't wait to make all sorts of pictures for his room.

Graduation

I did it. I finished college. With my grades, motivation, and sanity (mostly) intact.

Last night was our big senior show and we had a huge turn out! I was lucky enough to have my family there for the whole thing. It felt great to finally see my book being read and enjoyed the way it was meant to be. And I am over the moon that people actually liked it! People I don't know! Crazy.

That being said, I was kind of mentally preparing myself to accept that I was now in the Real World and needed to be grown up and responsible (seriously though, is anyone?), and was actually considering shutting down this blog. I figured, hey, I need to find a job, I'll be writing a graphic novel, and I don't think I'll have any time for Rachel Draws. Plus, who gives a shit?

Turns out, some people I had never met before give a shit and I ran into a few at the show. And at least one of them said "I love your blog! Keep it up!"

I'm gonna have a moment here, so no judgment.

I will keep it up, I won't stop posting stuff here. And maybe something really great will come of this sometime down the road. Who knows.

For now I'm settling in for a couple of weeks then I'll be putting myself on a schedule for DAILY POSTS (the cake is not a lie) and maybe sneak peaks at the comic book I'm hoping to finish by September. Morgan, Travis, Ahna, Lydia, Vina, (mom, dad, if you are reading this, you too :), and all you other people who read this but never got a personal shout out, you guys made it all worthwhile. Thanks for sticking with me.

SEACREST OUT.

Yogurt

Well look at the time. It's my birthday! I'm turning Old.

Lots of big things happening, besides the anniversary of my eviction from a placenta! Today I am going to send my senior thesis book to be printed (gasp!) and this weekend I'll get to bind it. Next week is when all of my finals are due (well, except for a lone presentation on the 9th although the project is technically due on the 2nd..). The following week is the big Senior Thesis Show, which is crazy exciting. And then what? Then I'm DONE. I'll be officially a college graduate! A few days after the senior show, my best friend is coming in to town, then my grandma, then we're having a party for my sister (she is also graduating) and me.... like I said, there is a lot happening!

So here's a comic I scribbled after babysitting a group of kids who really wanted their yogurt.

Spring Break

My blog has been extra silent this past week, in case you hadn't already noticed. I just got back from a fantastic eight days with my Best Friend, who lives in Plymouth, Indiana. Home away from home. I didn't do a spot of schoolwork, but I DID get a lot of comics and drawing in! Once I unpack and have a moment to breathe, I'll post em all so you can see me with my new haircut.

Stir Crazy

I've been working on the same project for about six weeks. It's due in 6 days. It's my last project of the semester. AND I AM SO BORED. I am sick of looking at the same freaking thing every day and I just want it to be finished!!!!

So here's a picture of Mo and me while she was visiting for Thanksgiving break. I miss her.
is it love. OR IS IT FANCY FEAST

MY BEST FRIEND

IS GETTING

this was my face when i found out
MY BESTEST FRIEND IN THE WHOLE WORLD IS GETTING HITCHED. OMMGGGG
TIME TO PICK COLOR SCHEMES AND BRIDESMAIDS DRESSES.

Seriously though, I'm super happy for those two kool kats. I wish wish wish I could be in Indiana with them right now!!!!!!!

Books!

No comic today; I'm going to Luray Caverns with the family. Instead I'm going to brag about the books I acquired yesterday! I LOVE BOOKS.

This one was a gift from my bestest friend Morgan!!!!
Basically it's 1000 reference pictures of cute butts and red lips. My mom literally called it pornographic. I think it's adorable.
I love it Morgan!!!!
The rest of the books I got while shopping at Borders. They're going out of business, so EVERYTHING is 40-60% off. Kid you not. So Travis bought me this book on Disney animation :3
It's got all sorts of awesome process shots and info about how a movie goes from idea to final product.
This was like $2. How could I say no. Also, the cat illustration is basically the most amazing thing I've ever seen.
THIS WAS ALSO LIKE $2!!!! CAN YOU BELIEVE IT?! This book is insanely awesome I am still dumbfounded that they had placed it in the EXTREME BARGAIN section!

This one I bought for practicality's sake. It was the most expensive of the lot, ringing up at $23 (down from $40!!). But it's so useful!! It's all about what to charge, how to write contracts, what other people are paying, going rates for illustrations/designing/etc, and how to master the business side of graphic design. I'm going to read it cover to cover.

**edit: noticed Travis in the mirror, reading Moonshine, a book that now costs more than three times what it originally did on Amazon. It was another awesome gift book
