Day 14

Portrait of the artist with mantra.

I’ll be out of town for the next few days (it’s Travis and my 4 year anniversary!) staying in this awesome farm house. So no computer and no comics. My eyes can certainly use a break from the digital strain. I’ll see you back here on Sunday/Monday.

Day 30!

“Oh what’s that? You had a conversation with someone? Let’s spend the rest of the day agonizing over every stupid thing you said when you should have taken an extra second to come up with a more intelligent reply, and then also the times they were probably judging you silently when you fidgeted with your pen. While we’re at it, why not consider the ways that you are a failure compared to others in your field and age range, and then maybe later we can lapse into a fear induced coma that disables you from coping with simple tasks for a while! Yeah that sounds like a good use of my evening.” —brain

Since I managed to get through 30 days of dailies, I’m giving myself a day off from comics to cash in at some point this week tomorrow. But, starting tomorrow Friday, I’ll be doing another 30 days of comics. To up the ante, I have to include color in each one. oOoOoOoHhHhH

Crowd Sourcing Creativity

I felt the urge to fiddle around in Illustrator. I definitely wanted words on that ribbon, but I can’t think of anything. Suggestions?

East of Eden

Just documenting my favorite passage (so far) from East of Eden.

I believe there are monsters born in the world to human parents. Some you can see, misshapen and horrible, with huge heads or tiny bodies; some are born with no arms, no legs, some with three arms, some with tails or mouths in odd places. They are accidents and no one’s fault, as used to be thought. Once they were considered the visible punishments for concealed sins.

And just as there are physical monsters, can there not be mental or psychic monsters born? The face and body may be perfect, but if a twisted gene or a malformed egg can produce physical monsters, may not the same process produce a malformed soul?

Monsters are variations from the accepted normal to a greater or less degree. As a child may be born without an arm, so one may be born without kindness or the potential for conscience. A man who loses his arms in an accident has a great struggle to adjust himself to the lack, but one born without arms suffers only from people who find him strange. Having never had arms, he cannot miss them. Sometimes when we are little we imagine how it would be to have wings, but there is no reason to suppose it is the same feeling birds have. No, to a monster the norm must seem monstrous, since everyone is normal to himself.  To the inner monster it must be even more obscure, since he has no visible thing to compare to others. To a man born without conscience, a soul-stricken man seem ridiculous. To a criminal, honesty is foolish. You must not forget that a monster is only a variation, and that to a monster the norm is monstrous.

Day 26

"i see you" --Sauron

haha! It’s like I had forgotten that drawing for fun even existed! Here’s my "comic" for the day. And by "comic" i mean "random doodle that I’m throwing up here."

Once I opened those brushes that I found, I couldn't help myself. I had to draw something. I figured a pretty eyeball would satisfy my craving.

Prodigal Brushes

If you read my blog a lot, you might remember my photoshop cry for help from a while back. Well I think I should pop open a bottle of champagne.

Because I found them online again!!

I almost cried from happiness. This small sketch was my way of saying “omgisitreallyyouit’sbeenforeverhowareyoudoing” to these beloved brushes.

You can get them for yourself straight from the artist, Chris Wahl: here!

About the sketch: It’s a (sort of) portrait of Cathy Ames from “East of Eden.” Her character creeps me the heck out.

Day 18

Today is Hourly Comic Day and I'm kind of excited to have an official sounding excuse to spend my day drawing comics. Why limit hourly comics to just one day? What if I pulled a James Kolchalka and did this EVERY DAY FOREVER??!

Hah hah. Yeah right.
