Graduation

I did it. I finished college. With my grades, motivation, and sanity (mostly) intact.

Last night was our big senior show and we had a huge turn out! I was lucky enough to have my family there for the whole thing. It felt great to finally see my book being read and enjoyed the way it was meant to be. And I am over the moon that people actually liked it! People I don't know! Crazy.

That being said, I was kind of mentally preparing myself to accept that I was now in the Real World and needed to be grown up and responsible (seriously though, is anyone?), and was actually considering shutting down this blog. I figured, hey, I need to find a job, I'll be writing a graphic novel, and I don't think I'll have any time for Rachel Draws. Plus, who gives a shit?

Turns out, some people I had never met before give a shit and I ran into a few at the show. And at least one of them said "I love your blog! Keep it up!"

I'm gonna have a moment here, so no judgment.

I will keep it up, I won't stop posting stuff here. And maybe something really great will come of this sometime down the road. Who knows.

For now I'm settling in for a couple of weeks then I'll be putting myself on a schedule for DAILY POSTS (the cake is not a lie) and maybe sneak peaks at the comic book I'm hoping to finish by September. Morgan, Travis, Ahna, Lydia, Vina, (mom, dad, if you are reading this, you too :), and all you other people who read this but never got a personal shout out, you guys made it all worthwhile. Thanks for sticking with me.

SEACREST OUT.

Fun Day

Yesterday was interesting. Not because anything particularly fun happened, but because it was strange enough to be worth remembering.

About halfway through the day, our hot water heater decides to spring a "leak". And by "leak", I mean it begins gushing water with such force and amount that everyone in the house is wondering why it sounds like our washing machine is about the explode.

My mother, bless her heart, is not that great in situations of the stressful variety. After trying and failing to turn off the master water valve, she was shouting at us to call 911. I think Lydia called Dad instead.

So he came home from work and started fixing the mess. Valves, pipes, tubes... it all had to be replaced. And we had to wet-vac out the three inches of water that filled the furnace room. FUN FUN FUN.

Then, since my Dad is a handy man and would rather we stay out of his way than offer to help with fixing things around the house, me and Lydia got bored. No water! Nothing to do!

We couldn't even make pasta! NO WATER!!

Eventually we figured out something to do with our evening. Aside from bothering the cat.
p.s. Those 'birds nests things' are actually REALLY GOOD.

Dad Tells a Story

BACK FROM THE DEAD

...........FOR ONE POST UNTIL NEXT WEEK OR SO.

This was my final project for my illustration class! I felt like I was cheating since I do comics all the time and they aren't a huge deal anymore. But the professor said anything we want, so I chose the easiest anything I wanted.

Middleburg Smithie Boys

Yesterday my sisters, dad, and I went on an expedition to Middleburg, VA; a stupidly quaint little town plopped in the middle of idyllic horse-country. Strange that it's less than an hour's drive from Washington D.C. You look to your left, you see this. You look to your right and you see this. I wish I had friends in Middleburg so I would have more reasons to go. It's so freaking cute!

As you can imagine, all the quaint idyllic-ness was nauseating (in the best way, of course). I had to draw a comic. Or two. Don't get used to this sort of a drawing-dump; school's back in session tomorrow!
